The International Congress of Photobiology took place in Perth, Australia, from August 25 to 30, 2024. It was organized by the International Union of Photobiology (IUPB) together with the Molecular and Experimental Pathology Society of Australasia (MEPSA).
The IUPB awards the Finsen Medal every 4-5 years to eminent photobiologists for their outstanding contributions to the photosciences. The award’s namesake, Niels Finsen, was a Nobel Prize winner and pioneer of photobiology. This year, three scientists from Norway, Japan and Germany were honored for their life’s work.
Prof. Jean Krutmann, Director of the IUF is the 5th dermatologist in the world to receive the IUPB’s highest award. In his invited lecture, he spoke on the topic “Beyond nuclear DNA repair: new functions of CSB and XPA proteins” and gave an insight into current research work.
